INTRASPECIFIC COMPETIONS
An example of intraspecific competion is between phytoplankton of a wetland. The phytoplankton will over populate, which then causes them to sink to the benthos layer. So to fight this they have developed density forming mechanisms such as vacuoles, gas forming vesicles, or by changing their shape to induce drag. Some species even have developed a tail-like flagella to move. By forming these mechanisms phytoplankton have locomotion, allowing them to spread apart so that they will not sink to the benthos layer.
